Hanau ‘Ia ‘O Namahoe

On Sunday, September 11th, Namahoe – Kaua’i’s Polynesian Voyaging Canoe will be presented to Kaua’i after years of hard laborious work by members of Na Kalai Wa’a o Kaua’i, countless community members, and students from near and far. This event will take place at Kalapaki Beach and the Marriott Kaua’i Walkway, with activities and entertainment beginning at 9:30 am. Namahoe will represent and serve the island of Kaua’i in many aspects of contemporary society, such as education, culture, leadership, stewardship, and service. Hawaii’s sister canoes Hikianalia and Mo’okiha of Maui will also be present to usher in the birth of Namahoe. A Hawaiian ceremony will begin at 11:00 am at the waters edge of Kalapaki Bay. From canoe families statewide to hula halau to keiki and kupuna, many will gather to witness this historical birthing of Kaua’i’s own Polynesian voyaging canoe. Come and join in the celebration of “Hanau ‘ia ‘o Namahoe”.
