Cellist Matt Haimovitz in Concert

Fifteen years after his first, path-breaking recording and tour of Bach’s six solo cello suites, cellist Matt Haimovitz renews his lifelong exploration of these beloved works with a forthcoming recording on baroque cello and cello piccolo. Haimovitz will perform two Suites of Bach, each one preceded by a work of the iconic living composersPhilip Glass and John Corigliano.

In 2000, with the recording that launched the artist’s own Oxingale Records, Haimovitz embarked on an extensive tour of North America, taking J.S. Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello out of the concert hall and into music clubs and coffeehouses. Matt Haimovitz is considered a pioneer in bringing classical chamber music back to intimate, alternative spaces.

Haimovitz’s personal interpretations of the suites were received with great acclaim, culminating in a historic performance at New York’s infamous punk palace, CBGB, filmed by ABC News for Nightline.
