The Friends of Kamalani & Lydgate Park coordinating 12th annual park improvement effort as part of National Make a Difference Day

The Kamalani Play Bridge at Lydgate Park is the focal point for this year’s community workday, running from 7:30 am to 12 Noon, Saturday, October 22, organized by the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park. This year volunteers will help give the bridge a fresh coat of paint. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

You can learn more about volunteering with the Friends and register for the workday by visiting www.Kamalani.org, or call (808) 639-1018. On the workday morning volunteers are asked to report to the Kamalani Pavilion, located in Lydgate Park’s overnight campground area.

This popular volunteer day at the Park typically attracts about one hundred Kauai residents of all ages each year, and has made significant improvements throughout the Park since these community workdays began in 2005. The event is always timed as an opportunity for the Kauai community to participate in National Make a Difference Day.

“The island’s volunteer community has a long list of impressive accomplishments in Lydgate Park—building and maintaining the Kamalani Playground, constructing the Kamalani Kai Bridge that started the East Side’s coastal walking and bicycling path system, securing funds to build the sports fields, and beach cleanups every Saturday to keep the swimming ponds area free of driftwood and marine debris,” commented Tommy Noyes, general coordinator for The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park. “This dedication benefits each and every park user. More importantly, we have fun tackling these major projects and build lasting friendships. I encourage you to experience this camaraderie for yourself this year on National Make A Difference Day.”

Lydgate Beach Park was founded a century ago to serve the residents of Kauai and was named in honor of the preservationist Rev. John Mortimer Lydgate.
