Open message to E Kanikapila Kakou supporters:
Thank you for all your inquiries by email, phone and in person asking whether Garden Island Arts Council will be staging EKK 2022 this year.  Happy to report that Hawaii Tourism Authority has granted GIAC “Community Enrichment Program” support, so we are working with Kaua’i Visitors Bureau to make it happen. Realistically, we need to keep our eye on the pandemic barometer which is erratic and unpredictable. We want to present EKK so it is SAFE and enjoyable for all participants. Keep the faith! Keep in tune! Music will survive!

Arthur Miller’s All My Sons
Directed by Sade Reuarin
All my sons is an American classic about a family amidst WWII. The father, Joe Keller, owns a factory that manufactures plane parts. During the war, they are contracted by the American government to manufacture for the military. After a bad batch of cylinders is sent out, a number of American pilots lose their lives. As the families of these soldiers are affected, so are the family and their community as they deal with the scandal. The family also has a personal loss – one of their sons never returned from the war. The play is set a couple of years later, after the war has ended, and explores the study of denial, guilt and social responsibility.

Saturday, December 4 & Tuesday, December 7
ACTING AUDITIONS: KAUAI COMMUNITY THEATRE COMEDY,
MAMA WON’T FLY

KAUAI COMMUNITY PLAYERS announce acting auditions for a comedy, MAMA WON’T FLY, to be held at the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse (4411 Kikowaena, Puhi ) Saturday, December 4th from 3 to 5 p.m., and Tuesday, December 7th from 6 to 8 p.m.. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

MAMA WON’T FLY will play 3 weekends, Thursdays through Sundays, opening February 17th through March 6, 2022.

Director Jo Grande will cast at least 8 roles, men and women ages 21 through 80, with most actors playing multiple roles, 24 total. The three largest roles are women including Mama, her daughter, and her grandson’s wife-to-be. The three embark on a cross country road trip from Alabama to California, a trip loaded with comedic chaos. Some of their misadventures involve an underwear museum, an ordained Vegas showgirl-turned-wedding-chapel-minister, a mad dash through the desert in a high-jacked 18-wheeler, and mother-daughter issues punctuating the urge to ditch each other.

Dramatist Play Service’s extremely successful playwrights–Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten—are familiar to Kauai audiences. Not only have they visited Kauai numerous times in the past 20 years, but several of their plays have been produced on the island: Dearly BelovedChristmas BellesDixie Swim ClubSavannah Sippin’ Society, most of which Jo directed. While reflecting the Southern humor and country folklore these playwrights excel in, Mama Won’t Fly broadens the trio’s particular focus on Southern locations to this cross-country jaunt you won’t soon forget!

Call Jo for more information and, if you wish, to request a script. Jo explains that both experienced actors and first timers looking to get their feet wet are welcome to audition. Jo will cast early, give out scripts, and allow holiday time before delving full-on into rehearsals in January. Family-friendly, ferociously funny, and fun to be part of—get involved!
