ka pae 'āina o hawai'i nei
hawaiian archipelago
mosaic mural program
Ka Pae ʻĀina o Hawaiʻi Nei” is an 80' x 4' mosaic depicting the Hawaiian Archipelago from Hōlanikū (Kure Atoll) to Hawaiʻi Island and Kamaʻehuakanaloa, highlighting the islands’ shared volcanic origins and the connection between Kīlauea Point NWR and the kūpuna islands of Papahānaumokuākea.
Created on sixteen 4' x 5' panels that form one continuous design, the mosaic offers a geological, environmental, physical, and cultural perspective of the archipelago. Built through a combination of cultural education seminars and hands-on mosaic workshops—in partnership with Kumu Hula Kēhaulani Kekua and other cultural practitioners—the project will explore island interconnectedness through mele and hula while teaching participants mosaic techniques and large-scale installation skills.
Projected installation date: May 2026
