Her passion for personal experience about her

subject matter has led her far and wide as she

Writing Children’s Picture Books:  A Unique Art

by Author Dorothy Hinshaw Patent

Daylong Workshop

Island School Frear Center

When people think of books for children, the picture

book comes first to mind.  These delightful, lushly-

illustrated volumes read by parents to youngsters

snuggled on their laps have been a mainstay of the

book business for decades.

Many people have stories they want to tell in this

popular format.  Yet writing the publishable picture

book is one of the most challenging projects a writer

can tackle.

Come spend a day with children’a author Dorothy Hinshaw Patent

and learn how to turn your story into a page-turning picture book.

You’ll learn about specifics such as acceptable format and

length and ways of writing that will make your story

appropriate for this special genre.
